It has two shopping parades situated in Daventry Road and Quinton Park, overlooking a small park and pool known as Quinton Pool. The suburb takes its name from Cheylesmore Manor, which was possibly named after “Chez Les Morts,” meaning “at the dead” in French, due to a plague pit discovered during excavations after World War II. Alternatively, the name may have originated from “Childsmore Gate,” the city gate leading to the area as labelled on old maps.
