Binley Woods is a village that was established in the 1920s when some of the estates of Coombe Abbey were sold off, and people started settling and constructing houses in the area, which was then known as Binley Common. Initially, the village lacked essential amenities such as paved roads, street lighting, piped water, or mains drainage. However, these facilities were gradually introduced from the 1930s onwards, although some of the side roads remained unpaved or unlighted until the 1960s. During the 1940s, a significant number of people moved to Binley Woods from Coventry to avoid air raids, often residing in makeshift structures and caravans.
